The Antique Theater in Hierapolis is a well preserved structure that was built in 206 A.C. The structure is influenced by Greek Theaters and was built on a hill slope. The construction began in A.C. 62, after a big earthquake and it was completed in 206 A.C., so it took about 144 years to get it built. The structure can hold up to 12.000 people.
If you visit Hierapolis and Pamukkale, don’t leave without visiting this 1800 year old theater. Although might find other Roman theaters in Turkey, this one is one of the best preserved theaters along with the ones in Ephesus and Bodrum. After the restoration that took place in 2013, the ancient theater started to host events like festivals and concerts.
